![]() If you are looking for a seafood buffet in Myrtle Beach.Captain George's is your best choice for everyone! The only other place I received this hands on service was at Disney! August 2019: Our second trip to Myrtle and Captain George’s was on the top of our itinerary! Manager walked me around and explained each dish and what was GF. The manager was very knowledgeable on the gluten free lifestyle! Bring your appetite, since they made me special foods I felt awful not eating it all.so much food! I had a smorgasbord! It is pretty pricey though.$40 a person.but you do get a seafood feast! I didn't feel worried about cross contamination like many other buffets, the glutened items were not near the g-free items, the fried foods were completely separate. He also offered a gluten free option of many of the "glutened" dishes and had them made special. We were seated right away and although our waiter was not the friendliest during our meal, we had our drinks within minutes & they were never empty! Now for the gluten free: the manager walked me around and pointed out every gluten free option on the vast buffet and even provided a brief description on some of the dishes. ![]() More than any buffet in the area, most of the reviews I read were positive and the selling point for me was the g-free information listed right on the website. If you are gluten-sensitive, not celiac, this place has a decent number of options, but my Celiac daughter felt anxious about it and the food was just okay.Īugust 2017: 5+ Stars!! We were traveling with a large group, with varying ages and opinions so I did a lot of research prior to selecting Captain George's for our seafood dinner. So we paid $49 for some crab legs and a salad. The crab legs were separate from the buffet line and served by an employee, so that seemed like the safest option. The manager provided a QR code to scan so we knew which buffet items were gluten-free, but the cross-contamination risk seemed high. Then he didn’t bring any dressing for the salad, so by the time we flagged him down to get the dressing we had been there 30 min! Although their website promised that those who are gluten-free could request that their food selections could be served directly from the kitchen to eliminate the possibility of cross-contamination, we had to have a stern conversation with our server and talk to the manager just to get a safe salad for my daughter who has celiac disease. If you have any questions about this lawsuit or are facing similar issues at work, please feel free to contact us.This is a buffet, so I would normally avoid it, however their website made promising statements about their gluten-free options so we gave it a try. We hope to recover more money for the workers at the Myrtle Beach location for the South Carolina law claims. That case is in a South Carolina federal court and is still ongoing. The second part includes South Carolina state law claims. That part is covered under the settlement. The first part included all of the federal claims (described above) and remained in a Virginia federal court. We consider this settlement a big win for the employees who joined the case.Īn unusual aspect of this case is that, at Captain George’s request, the lawsuit was split into two parts. Failed to provide tipped workers with a proper notice regarding the Fair Labor Standards Act’s tip credit provisions Ĭaptain George’s denied that they broke the law and, as part of the settlement agreement, Captain George’s did not admit liability for any of these claims.Paid a tipped wage rate of $2.125 instead of the federal tipped wage rate of $2.13.Required servers to buy uniform shirts at the start of their employment.Required servers to pay for non-employee “silverware rollers” to roll silverware.Underpaid overtime wages by calculating time-and-a-half based on the tipped minimum wage rate rather than full minimum wage.Unlawfully retained tip money by both diverting some of the money to non-tipped workers and simply retaining the money in the restaurant’s bank account. In the wage theft lawsuit, the restaurant workers alleged that Captain George’s: The settlement agreement allowed Captain George’s to pay the settlement money on October 1, 2019. On May 29, 2019, the federal district court in for the Eastern District of Virginia approved a settlement of over $2,400,000, to be divided (after fees and costs) among approximately 370 restaurant workers including servers, bussers, buffet runners, and bartenders. We are pleased to report that, after a lengthy legal battle with Captain George’s Seafood Restaurant, settlement checks are going out in the mail. ![]()
